New Mansard Slate roof for the Historic Wheeler Kohn House in Chicago

Built in 1870 for Calvin Wheeler a banker and former President of the Chicago Board of Trade, the house changed hands several times. After sitting vacant for years and threatened with demolition, the current owner purchased the property for $10,000 in 1997. After months of renovations, which included the replacement of the mansard slate roof, the home was restored as a boutique hotel.

The Wheeler-Kohn House is one of the last remaining mansions to have survived the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Designated a Chicago Landmark in 1998 and listed as a National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

Inspired by French architecture of the 19th Century, this house is a classic example of Second Empire Architecture.

Sheena graduated from the University of Guelph in 1992 with a BA in English and Drama and in 1995 graduated with a Diploma in Radio and Television Broadcasting from Centennial College. Sheena’s first job was the Executive Producer’s Assistant for TV shows including Robocop, F/X The Series and Nikita. She went on to becoming an Assistant Manager at Eddie Bauer. In her spare time, Sheena enjoys traveling, gardening and hikes with family and friends.
