Slate Roof Tiles in Kansas

The American Heartland is so thoroughly represented by the state of Kansas that it has earned the unofficial nickname “America’s Heartland.” Officially nicknamed “The Sunflower State,” Kansas has earned a reputation for its enormous contribution to American agriculture, particularly for its harvests of wheat, corn, and soybeans. Infamously mistaken by a former president for being the home of the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs,  the state of Kansas is instead proudly home to the Sporting Kansas City Major League Soccer franchise.

Slate has long been a preferred roofing material for industrious Kansans. As a longtime agricultural powerhouse state, Kansas has relied on slate shingles to cover its homesteads, barns, and government buildings’ roofs from its early history to modern times.  While the architecture has developed over the centuries, the enduring appeal and superb quality of slate shingles remain as strong today as it was for Kansas’ early settlers.

For more than two decades, North Country Slate has been proudly supplying the state of Kansas with the finest selection of slate roof tiles and shingles in both the United States as well as Canada. Atchison County Courthouse in Atchison

FAQ

Roofing slate is quarried across the Northeastern quarter of North America. From as far North as Quebec, Canada, to the states of Vermont, Virginia, and New York, slate quarries are central to the development of early U.S. architecture.

Depending on the quality of the slate selected, slate roofs will usually cost between $600 and $800 per 100 square feet of roof. Roofing slate costs are determined by the given slate’s workable properties and availability. For example, a highly workable Semi-Weathering Gray/Green slate roof tiles will cost less than a brittle and rare Unfading Red slate roof tiles.

Despite its natural strength, slate shingles can occasionally be damaged by windstorm debris or fallen tree limbs. A qualified slate roof contractor will easily be able to match and replace your damaged slate tiles

North Country Slate is an excellent slate to use for your projects. We've used it extensively, and most recently at the Maryland State Capitol. This project was one of the finalists for International Steep Slope Project of the Year.
