Missouri Slate Shingles

North Country Slate has been supplying premium quality roofing slate in Missouri since 1997. Whether it’s a new roof, re-roof or slate repair, we work closely with architects, roofing contractors and owners of government, religious and institutional buildings. Known as a border state, Missouri is surrounded by Tennessee, Iowa, Illinois, Kentucky, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska. Because of its location, Missouri played a key role in becoming the “Gateway to The West”. The architecture of Missouri exhibits a variety of residential and commercial styles throughout the state; Greek Revival style custom homes, Romanesque Revival style churches, Italian and Gothic Revival. A strong French presence in the late 1700’s, produced French Colonial style buildings. After World War I, homes began to reflect Colonial Revival style with dormers and traditional brick exteriors. Bungalows built in the 1920’s and 1930’s were popular in St. Louis working class neighborhoods. Art Deco and Neo-Renaissance style were also popular residential architecture in 1920’s and 1930’s. When it comes to maintaining a historic home, or building your dream custom home, it’s important to source a high-quality roofing slate product. In North America, roofing slate should only be tested by National Slate Association approved laboratories to ensure testing procedures are followed correctly. Slates are tested for flexure/breaking load (ASTM C120), water absorption (ASTM C121) and weather resistance (ASTM C217). If all of these test methods meet the requirements of C406, they receive a Grade S1 Classification which indicates the material will last a minimum of 75 years.
