The Commonwealth of Virginia, or, “Old Dominion”, is bordered by Maryland, Washington, D.C., North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky and West Virginia. It is also surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay. With a rich history of producing slate locally from Buckingham County in central Virginia for over 150 years, roofing slate is a popular choice for Virginians. In northern Virginia our Canadian slate has established itself as the benchmark for quality Unfading Black roofing slate. Working alongside The Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC), U.S Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), our slate products have been specified and installed on the following government bases:

  • Quantico Marine Base – Triangle, VA
  • Fort Myers Army Base – Arlington, VA
  • Fort Belvoir Army Base – Fairfax County

Our blue/black slate shingles require minimal maintenance, unaffected by freeze / thaw cycles, and are environmentally safe and backed by our 75-year warranty. With stringent thickness and dimensional tolerances, standard slate thicknesses include 3/16”, 1/4” and 3/8”. Slate nail holes are individual punched with counter sink, not drilled. Material is produced to a higher standard and with easy trimming characteristics it provides many installation efficiencies saving both time and money on the rooftop. In central Virginia, home to the states capital city of Richmond, roofing contractors are active repairing and replacing old Virginia slate roofs that have met their life expectancy. With thousands of squares of slate shingles on hand and ready to ship, we have built a reputation in central Virginia as your “go to” slate source. While being able to provide new repair slates to match existing shingles as close as possible it allows roofing contractors to perform the necessary repairs required to keep your roof from leaking. North Country Unfading Black was installed by local slate roofing contractor, Sanger’s Quality Roofing, in 2007 to match this historic black slate roof. Being able to match the existing 12”x8”x1/4” blue/black slate size in a timely fashion, was a key factor in choosing North Country Black as the selected contractor was able complete the new roof installation prior to winter. Located in Colonial Williamsburg, is the College of William & Mary (founded in 1963).
